The Assamite vampire clan was originally a group of select
skilled assassins who were in contract killings in exchange
for blood of other vampires.
Compared to other clans, the Assamites are excessively obsessed with
blood; this is so because of a clan weakness, an addiction to blood of
other vampires.
Obviously, the clan's symbolism is in Arabic origin
which is inspired by the Hashshashin cult that first Occupied Alamut,
the clan stronghold.
The Assamites generally claim that they are independent of any faction
or sect; they collaborate with Camarilla and Sabbat when the faction
serves their purpose.
Over the years though, there were groups of Assamites that joined the
Sabbat and a smaller group of schismatics that was dependent on the
Camarilla for protection. They were the Assamite
Antitribu.
Quietus, the Assamite's discipline alters the
chemistry of their blood and that of their victims. This discipline is
specifically useful serving their true purpose as Judges and Police to
their fellow vampires during the time of the first city – the city of Enoch.
This clan was never cursed by Caine but was cursed by two other clans
of vampires…

A fairly interesting book written by Graeme Davis, detailiing some good information on the history and motivations of the clan.
Something worth reading if you're an Assamite player.
