In 2001 Daniel and Manuela Ruda murdered Frank Hackerts, Daniel's coworker and friend whom they invited to their apartment which was located near Bochum in the region of Ruhr, western Germany.
Daniel and Manuela Ruda claimed Satan ordered
them to kill Frank who
was their human sacrifice for a satanic ritual and they actually felt
that they did Frank a favor as he is now "beside Satan, the best place
that he could be".
Daniel Ruda was a car parts salesman when this gruesome crime happened at the age of 26. His wife, Manuela was only 23 years old.
The couple stabbed Frank 66 times, hit him with a hammer on his head, carved a pentagram into his chest and left a scalpel protruding from his body.
After that, they drank his blood from a cup and had sex in Manuela's coffin.
Manuela Ruda told the court that they were not alone. According to her, the moment Frank arrived, there were "strange beings" and "other beings" that were present.
Manuela recounted the event in the court as follows: "We were sitting on the couch the whole time, then my husband stood up," "He had terrible, glowing eyes and hit out with the hammer." "Frank stood up and said something, or wanted to say something. The knife was glowing and a voice told me, "Stab him in the heart.'"
"He then sank down, I saw a light flickering around him. That was the sign that his soul was going down. We said a satanic prayer." "We were then exhausted, and alone, wanted to die ourselves. But the visitation was too short. We could no longer kill ourselves."
Neither of the couple hesitated to confess for their crime, they also showed no remorse for the murder as they really believed they did Frank a favor and that they did not do anything wrong as they were only following orders from the devil.
Daniel even compared their act with a car killing a person... "If I kill a person with my car and half his bloody head is left on my bumpers, it is not the car that goes to jail, it is the driver who is evil. I have nothing to repent, because I did nothing."
Daniel and Manuela Ruda also did disturbing acts throughout the court proceedings like manically rolling their eyes, sticking out their tongues, and other provocative hand gestures.
Manuela embraced Satanism even before she met her husband. She claims she was first introduced to satanism when she went to Britain, saying that she was contacted by the devil when she was only 14 years old.
She lived in a cave on the Isle of Skye for quite sometime with a heavily tattooed 62 year old man named Tom Leppard. She worked in a gothic club in Islington in London where she met people and vampires, went out with them at night to cemeteries, woods, and ruins. She drank blood with them from willing donors, slept on graves and even had herself buried just for the "feel of it".
When Manuela went back to Germany, she met Daniel when she answered a "Lonely Hearts" advertisement in a heavy metal magazine. The Ad read:

Both Daniel and Manuela believed in Satan, they worshiped him.
Investigators found a death list in their apartment containing names of
their future victims.
They found the victim's body mutilating beside the coffin at the
couple's apartment a week after the murder when the couple was
arrested.
Odd as their crime, they were only sentenced to 15 and 13 years
correspondingly in a secure psychiatric ward. Psychiatrists told the
court that Daniel and Manuela Ruda were suffering form "severe
narcissistic personality disturbances" which resulted to the
prosecution's rejection of calls for life sentences believing that the
couple are mentally ill and that they can't be entirely held
responsible for their actions.
In passing the sentence, Judge Arnjo Kerstingtombroke commented that "This
case was not about satanism but about a crime committed by two people
with severe disorders. Nothing mystical or cult-like happened here;
just simple, base murder."
