Home » Gangrel Vampire Clan
The Gangrel Vampire Clan , though most commonly found in the wild is less often attacked by werewolves compared to other vampire clans; something that even the members of the clan couldn’t decipher, some says that they came from same origins as with the werewolves.
They too are the only Clan of vampires that can turn into various animal forms; others are limited to only one or two animal forms, usually bats, and dogs.
The Gangrel are mostly associated with shape-shifting and vagrants. The Clan’s Magical Protean discipline allows them to shift to animal forms either partially or completely.
They can turn virtually into any animal being making them dangerous
predators and scavengers of the wild.
Accordingly, members of the Gangrel Vampire Clan are most commonly
associated with the “Road of the Beast”, a life
dictated by instincts, same with that of an animal: A life of today,
there’s no yesterday nor there is tomorrow.
They kill if it’s necessary, they kill to survive. Morality is unknown
to this vampire clan as it is unknown to animals.
They are the Allies of the Brujah Clan and foes of
the Ravnos.
They used to belong to the Camarilla Sect, a tie
destroyed in 1999 when the Camarillas refused to help the clan’s Justicar
(Clan Prime Minister) in his fight against an unidentified
antediluvian.
Modern members of Gangrel vampire clan are “rugged” individualists and
the clan is considered one of the low-class clans. There were very few
records kept of the Gangrel vampire clan during the Dark Ages. What is
known today has been passed from Sire to Childe, from generation to
generation.
The Gangrel Vampire Clan had a bloody rivalry with the Tremere who was
believed to have used members of Gangrel Vampire Clan as subjects of
their experiments in creating Gargoyles.
From time to time the Gangrel vampire clan would tie-up with Vampire
Clan Tzimisce against the Tremere, but such faction will immediately
disintegrate once the purpose such faction is successfully served.
Members of Gangrel vampire clan are most commonly found in Northern
Europe:
The Nordic Tribes - modern day Denmark, Sweden, and Norway
The Picts – Scotland
The Welsh – England
The Celts – Ireland
Members of Gangrel vampire clan can actually be found in any
regions of
the world as they have the inclination to wander.
Those members of Gangrel vampire clan who travel near cities were referred as “spawn of the devil”
during the time of Inquisition and like the Tzimsce and the Nosferatu, vampire clan Gangrel grew as one of the most brutal monsters of the night.
But members of vampire clans Toreador, Ventrue, and Lasombra were
willing to sacrifice members of vampire clan Gangrel to satisfy their
wickedness that they pursue the inquisition on another trail.
Being embraced by those who came from religions other than
Christianity, the Gangrels were more persecuted for being pagans than
from being vampires.
These persecutions often came from the hands of vampire clans from
Catholicism – the Ventrue and the Lasombra.
In
the Victorian Age, very few Gangrels chose to live in cities
and hamlets that became industrial centers virtually overnight.
Also, the growth of religous influences made the Gangrels cautious of
yet another round of the brutal inquisitorial practices of the Dark
Ages.
Most clan members hid into the wild in order to avoid probable danger
that only Beckett, the theology debater and scholar, was known to have
proper kindred connections during this time.
There were some rumored debates that the Victorian Age gave rise to the
"City Gangrel" bloodline.
Gangrel Scholars claim that the Victorian Age was a "new era in Gangrel
revolution", saying that just as human grew more technologically
skilled and more adept in the modern urban life, so did Gangrels grew
more adept in city hunting.
The Victorian Age was also seen as the beginning of Gangrel's gain of
political and economic powers.
They survived and thrived in the Final Nights.
Xarviar, the last surviving Justicar of Gangrel,
eliminated their faction with the Camarilla in 1999. But as what was
usual with the clan - each of member decided for themselves; many
stayed with the sect, others joined the Sabbat and others decided to be
Independents.
The Clan's Progenitor was Ennoia who merges with
the earth and become something way more than a vampire with the ability
to move continents.
In one account, Ennoia was as vicious and secretive as the other
antediluvian, a behavior that stopped when Saulot
returned as the Vampire Messiah.
Generally, Ennoia wasn't vengeful or her clan, unlike her other
sibllings and childer. She only awakens to stop the battles
of the other antediluvians and returns to earth's core where
she rests.
