Let the Right One In

by Marie Lauver

Let the Right One In isn't your average vampire film. It's got no sparkly vampires or beefed up pale guys posing as wannabe Hot Topic models.

Instead it brings back the sensual nostalgia of vampires put through the perspective of a young 12 year old boy. The vampire in this film is a slightly older teenage girl. She ends up moving into the same apartment complex as the boy.

I found the relationship the two developed to be very sweet and realistically charming. Because the young boy is bullied at school the vampire girl ends up sticking up for the boy. They end up developing a deep friendship until the townsfolk start getting suspicious and she has to move.

I thought this was a good and honest vampire film because it wasn't marketed to appeal to kids. This film came from a folktale and it took a little bit for a plot to develop but that made the film more profound in its delivery.

I would recommend this film for people who are tired of the mainstream photocopied vampire story and want something with a little allure and intelligence put into it.
