A new comic book group--Red Moon Features--has gone to the past for its future.
The group of titles plans to offer a unique, one-of-a-kind, entertaining alternative to the standard superhero fare with its line of horror, suspense, mystery, adventure and true crime stories. Harkening back to the medium's glory days of tales of high adventure (pre-comic book code), Red Moon Features is debuting its first color title, Dead Planet Stories, this month with an anthology offering of horror and adventure yarns that draw on the rich history of comics.
The brainchild of longtime comic book fan James DiAngelo, the group was in the planning stages for two decades before the one-time comic book store owner launched the nuts and bolts of the company in November, 2009. Diangelo, aided and abetted with character development by associate Bill Mays, quickly assembled a staff of young, talented artists and storytellers. By mid-2010, he brought veteran Charlton Comics horror writer Thomas A. Tuna on board as editor in chief and the titles began to take shape. With two websites being updated with new and exciting features, Red Moon gave birth to NIckel Heroes, a stable of future titles that will highlight adventure, science-fiction and crime scenarios.
DiAngelo wants to acknowledge the contributors that have made this enterprise a success. Artists and storytellers include John Airo, who designed and executed the group's eye-catching logo and is working on a script for Dead Planet Stories; Ryan Arlint, who already has two illustrated scripts under his belt; Lionel Cornelius, the artist on the upcoming "Billie Kidd" crime series; Matt Foster, who has contributed illustrated tales of horror and science-fiction; Janeane Povilaitis, whose book "Montaigue Bones and Company" will debut late this summer; and Drew Maxey, a writer working on the group's continuing "Bri'k" series.
