There are many myths about whether vampires burn to ash in direct sunlight or something along those lines.Iv'e read in books and internet folklore of vampires that sunlight and garlic were invented to give humans a chance against living amongst vampires, now this is my opinion: vampires were originally made to be related to the dark and more gothic side of life which includes blood, darkness, the night and killing so since the sun is bright and most seem to think it's a happy symbol and vampires are more on the dark side that the sun would burn them because of the way they live or the side they live on.Understand?

Vampires and Sunlight by: Anonymous
Depending on your understanding of what vampires are, vampires may either burn, explode, or turn into ashes.
But if you do fully understand what vampires are, we don't really die when shone upon by the sun or even when we stare straight at it, which in most instance may cause temporary (or permanent) blindness.
If what you're referring to are the undead vampires portrayed in films and literature, 99% of the time they do die when exposed to sunlight not unless if they are half-bred but in reality, vampires don't really die when shone upon by the sun though we hate sunlight as we easily get sun-burnt compared to everyone else.
