The Woods

by Nicole Luna
(Idaho, United States )

Tree branches hit my face leaving cuts and bruises on my face. I didn’t care because I was running for my life as it was at stake.

Stopping for a while I tried to breathe. Gasping, I placed my hands on my knees, and bent down my head. I tried to take slow and steady breaths but I couldn’t. My heart pumped my blood at a mile a minute.

“I think I lost him. I think I lost him.” I said to myself out loud.

I looked up to see a bright light at the end of the path. I walked up the path a little bit and saw a house with the front pouch lights on.

I didn’t hear anyone behind me until I heard a twig snap...

Turning around quickly, I saw a dark figure. His eyes were the color of blood and his skin glowed with a pale white color.

I tried to scream but didn’t have the strength to because my breath was caught at the back of my throat.

He smiled gently and I saw his pointed teeth. They were so white that they glowed in the dark. His hair was covering his face, dark black, almost like midnight.

Before I can even gasp a breath, he grabbed me by the hair and jerked up to expose my throat to him.

I could smell his breath as he opened his mouth. It was a thick sour smell of old blood. I tried to push against him to break free but it was useless against him, I could barely move.

I felt a sharp pain slowly drilling my throat...

"If I’m going to die," I thought as my strength was being sucked out of me. "I’m going to die fighting." I pushed against him one last time and caught him off guard.

That mighty push loosened his grip of me, I bolted fast towards the house, not looking back but I screamed as loud as I can.

I was almost there when suddenly something hit the back of my head. I knew I was going to die as I felt the darkness gracefully swallowing me.

Waking up, I found myself in my room tucked up in my bed.

“Just a dream.” I murmured to myself, making myself feel better.

I walked out of bed and into the bathroom to wash my face off with cold water.

"Just a dream” I repeated, tracing a finger down my neck I felt two little puncture holes at the base of my throat.

Eyes widened, I looked at myself in the mirror. And said...

“No… it wasn't a dream.”

I bet you've already read my story, but I couldn't help myself to my curiosity. When you woke up, what did you see? I want to know if you saw the same thing I did.
