Beth fingered her blond hair nervously. Where was he, was he...
There! A flash of dark hair caught her attention. But it was only a similar looking man. Her desperation must have showed on her face because James walked up to her and said quietly, "Are you okay?"
"Nathan hasn't turned up yet. Do you think he's ditching me? That he's gone to the beach party?" Her blue eyes search his grey ones. He simply kisses the top of her forehead and steps away.
So it's a probably, she thinks grimly to herself. Oh, Nathan. If only he could see that she was his real friend, and now possible his real date... but his obsession with popularity blinds him.
"Bethy!" Kate screeches from behind her. She turns around to see the tall vampire running towards her.
Beth laughed, despite her bitter and sad mood. "Oh, Kate. How do you ever run in those heels?" Kate mischievously pulled up the hem of her skirt to reveal the golden heels glittering against her pale skin.
"You know me, Bethy. Never really did bother for rules and safety regulations." But then suddenly her face is serious and she looks very concerned. "Where's Nathan?"
Beth sighs. That's all Kate needs to hear. Quickly she grips her friends arm and pulls her away from the party to an empty balcony.
"The party - " Beth begins, looking at the people dancing in gowns, laughing and chatting.
"Never mind that," Kate scolds. "Nate left you here. How could he? This is not only the dance night of the year but your transformation date. You were meant to become a vampire tonight!"
"Who said that plan ever changed?" Beth said angrily, her voice rising. But she already knew the answer.
"Nathan was decided to change you, and yet he chose his mates and his popularity over you and his vampire culture. I don't know what you see in him. James is much more suitable."
"James? Why is he in this conversation?"
"Why am i not?" Said a low voice from beside them. James stood there, his brooding eyes narrowed on the young girls.

"Oh great," Kate mutters, throwing her hands up in the air.
"Well you know what?" Beth yells unexpectedly. "If Nathan isn't coming here, i will go to him. He can change me on the beach."
"Not only is that dangerous with those rogue vampires, but you could be suspended! Ms Dalingham said one more slip, and you could stay down, remember?"
"I'm tired of being your food and being looked down upon! I WILL become immortal!"
"Beth, we don't think of you as food - "
"Yes, but i am. It is the only way you will change me anyway. Now let me go." Without hesitating she flew down the balcony steps and onto the lawn, running in the opposite direction of the palace.
But by the time she was in the woods she wasn't so confident. Her steps slowed. It was so dark in here...
Suddenly she heard a moaning noise coming from nearby. What WAS that...
Stepping over a fallen tree and through tangled vines, she came upon lovers, leaning against a tree. They clearly didn't notice her. Beth could see the woman had been feeding.
Disgusted, she began to run again, until the trees thinned and then finally stopped completely. Where they did, sand piled up until a beautiful beach was in sight.
But it was ruined from the rowdy picture she could see.
A group of rogue vampires had built huge bonfire and were dancing, drinking and swimming in the waters. They didn't notice her slip quietly into the throng of vampires.
Turning around, catching site of a mess of black colored hair. Nathan -
He was making out with another girl, their bodies pressed tightly together. A group of girls laughed and giggled at this event. They seemed to be in some kind of line.
Her heart breaking, she spun around and started to walk back up the beach and away from the party.
Vampires. Who needed them.
